Giving birth is THE absolute most amazing experience you will every have as a woman! There is no question in that. It just IS! If you have given birth before, you know what I mean, if you are expecting your first, prepare to be amazed in a way that really can not be described!
That being said... Many people have a negative view on birth photography, and that comes mostly from not understanding exactly what it is. Lets start there.
What is Birth Photography? It is Beautiful! It is tastefully and eternally capturing the most important day in a parents life. It is an invaluable service which I provide to allow you and your partner to focus on the emotional and physically taxing journey of labor. Birth Photography is visually memorializing your labor journey - capturing the moments you will never want to forget - the first time you see your baby, the first time you touch and hold him, the first breath he takes, the first cry he whimpers! You will be left with incredible, artful, images of the blessed day that your child was born!
My Goal My job as your birth photographer is to be present without being noticed. I work hard to capture your labor and delivery without invading your personal space or making you feel uncomfortable. Documenting your labor, birth, and special moments right after is what I do! You are there to focus on one thing, giving birth to your baby. Just as every member of your birth team has a job, I do too. Your partner, family, and doula are there to support you in labor, they need to be completely present in supporting you through this journey! Your midwife/doctor and nurses are there to provide monitoring and medical intervention for you and your baby, their job is to keep you and your baby safe. Your birth photographer is there to capture all of this and ensure that you have the memories and emotions they evoke to keep with you forever!
Now, Im sure that you have many questions. Lets try to answer some of those!
Where will you travel? Belly-Birth-Baby Photography is a Bozeman Montana based company, providing Birth Photography to the Gallatin Valley Area. Being a Montana native, I anticipate that travel is a necessary part of life, and therefore am also available to do your birth photographs anywhere within 100 miles of Bozeman Montana! Travel greater than 25 miles will require an additional fee of $0.56/ mile. Keep in mind that travel takes time, so early contact will be extremely important in all cases, but especially if you are located greater than a 30 min. drive!
When should I book my shoot?
You are welcome to book your shoot at any point during your pregnancy. I recommend booking as early as you feel comfortable to ensure that I am available. I typically will only schedule two birth shoots per month to do my best to ensure my availability.
Will we meet before my shoot? Yes!!! We will get together to discuss your expectations, concerns, particular circumstances, and comfort level. Because we will only get one shot at this, I need to know what shots you are really hoping for. I also want to talk to you about where you plan on laboring and birthing. Additionally, I will need to know what type of birth you plan on having. If you have had previous births, I will ask for some details of those births, and the births of your close blood relatives. Timing is everything, so if you or your family have a history of 4 hour labors or alternatively 40 hour labors, that information will be critical in ensuring the best experience for both of us.
Will YOU be at my birth? I will be on-call for one week before and one week after your expected due date. Statistically, 80% of babies are born within this window. This in no way means that if you deliver before or after, that I wont be there! I will do absolutely everything I can to attend your birth. I carefully plan vacations and times when I am required to be out of town. In the situation where I know I will not be available I simply will not book a birth for that time period. Also, I am a part of an amazing community of photographers, and if an emergency arises, I will work diligently to line up a back up photographer whom I trust and who will provide you with quality service and photographs.
